Interview: Ron Carlivati Gives A Preview of Things To Come!

Ron Carlivati recently joined General Hospital as the show's new head writer. Ron's no stranger to serials – he was part of the One Life to Live writing team for fifteen years, the last four of which he spent as head writer. Ron won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series during his tenure there, and brought One Life to Live much critical and fan acclaim. Now that he's at General Hospital - alongside his longtime OLTL colleague Frank Valentini (who is now the executive producer of GH) – he sat down with ABC.com to give us a preview of things to come!

ABC.com: First of all, congratulations! Everything really seems to be hitting the ground running these days.
Thank you, yes it's a very exciting time in Port Charles!

ABC: You have a history of being a fan of General Hospital, even before One Life to Live. Can you talk a little about that? And what are characters and storylines that made the biggest impact on you when you were a viewer?
Sure, absolutely. Even though I'm most closely associated and identified with One Life to Live – I was a writer on the show for 15 years and I was a big fan of it way before then – I actually started watching General Hospital before I ever watched One Life to Live. General Hospital was my first soap. If my memory serves me correctly, I've been watching it since 1978.

Interview: Micheal Easton In TV Guide

Soap opera giant Micheal Easton brings his OLTL character John McBain to General Hospital. In an exclusive chat with TV Guide Magazine, Easton gives the lowdown on McBain's bad past with Sonny Corinthos and what GH plans to do about his own wicked history in Port Charles.

Michael Easton (John McBain, OLTL; ex-Caleb, PC) had the same reservations as most fans did about bringing some characters onto GH from another soap. He’s all for supporting soaps and playing out an exciting story promised him by executive producer Frank Valentini. But he didn’t want to do it at the expense of everything built by GH.
“My biggest concern was that I didn't want to go to GH just to bait some of the OLTL audience. I didn't feel that was very valid or fair. It would just piss off the GH audience and disappoint the OLTL fans. There needs to be a really good reason why McBain is in Port Charles — something organic, not forced — and I think they came up with a good one.”

Quote: Nathan Parsons' Outrage Over The Loss of the Woman In White.

Did the end of the "Woman In White" debacle and demotion of former head writer Garin Wolf play a role in Nathan Parsons' General Hospital exit? Apparently so. In this week's Soap Opera Digest (on newstands now), Parsons revealed his frustration over Wolf being asked to step down and his character Ethan's love interest Alyshia Ochse (ex-Cassandra/Irina) being fired. Both of which he says factored into his decision to leave.
"Ethan finally gets a girlfriend and she's killed," chuckles Parsons. "When I first started talking about leaving, it had always been in the back of my mind that my contract was coming up. Then I found out that Garin [Wolf, former head writer] was going to be asked to step down. It was frustrating because he was the first person who wrote a great story for this character. It was supposed to continue on for months. They had Alyshia [Oschse, ex-Cassandra/Irina] on a potential five-year contract."

It seems like Frank and Ron got to Port Charles just in the nick of time! Could you imagine this whole Lady in white business continuing for five minutes longer, let alone five years?
